This is a car I have waited for for a very long time - and as you can see it is not finished yet. It is made by one of my friends, Mogens Hejlesen, who some years ago began fiddling with a lot of brass sheet and some resin Formula 1 bodies. When I saw the first example of his work I was stunned - and I made sure of telling him, that the Mercedes W196 was an all time favorite of mine.
Some years have passed since and Mogens has made quiet a few old-timer Formula 1 raceres for himself and a few friends. They are - in my opinion - pure pieces of art. One of them even has steering frontwheels and wingnuts you can remove to take the rims and tires off! He has made Ferraris, Alfa Romeos, a Vanwall.....but no Mercedes.
Until now! Recently Mogens handed me a small plastic bag containing a marvellous little Mercedes W196. Ready to race - but unpainted. This I have to do myself because Mogens thinks I will do a good job. Oh, how I hope he is right!
It may take some time before I finish the car, so until then it is presented here in "raw" condition. But it is still beautifull! When it is finished it will be the star (pun intended) in my collection.
